The 305 loves a good party -- but may I remind my Cuban brothers and sisters that
Fidel hasn't died yet and it looks like there's a pretty concrete succession procedure in place to ensure that his legacy of dictatorship lives on. Hate to rain on the parade, but put your clothes back on, the battle isn't even halfway over.
You're right. All the more reason to shut Harry Belafonte and his ilk up and allow Cubans - for once - to have a say in their destiny without a bunch of rich, American, leftist Castro sympathizers giving him power. And if another comes in his place (like the Castro's brother) then it should raise the imperative to support all those who jump into the ocean to escape Communist tyranny - and all those who are dancing shirtless on cars in the hope that a dead Castro will give life to Cuban liberty.
ReplyDeleteYou're right that it's too soon to celebrate over Cuba. Even when Castro does die, the sheer institutional inertia of his years of iron-grip rule means that it will be a while before anything starts to change.
ReplyDeleteBut as for "put your clothes back on" ... Any reason, even a premature one, for getting cute young guys to take their shirts off for the cameras is fine by me.
I have to agree with jean lafitte. I mean, what's so bad about half naked men? There is never a bad reason for that. ;-)
ReplyDeleteno no! Let them think he's dead! Maybe they'll take MORE clothes off!
