Everybody Stay Put

By now the whole world is aware of the tragedy that has befallen the community at Virginia Tech. For all of us here in the States, it's a reminder that "safety" is really the space between one person's bad day and another person's good luck. But the bigger lesson here is one that's replayed in history for years, most recently in the post-9-11 era.
The concept of staying put is at the backbone of the current American psyche. An airplane crashes into one of the tallest buildings in the world yet people in the facing tower are told to resume work and ignore the flames and smoke just a few feet away from them. A war drags on for four years with no evidence of any stump to the global threat of terrorism and still a country "stays the course" for, um, freedom. For years people have been able to purchase semiautomatic weapons, even after Columbine and a slew of other school shootings, and still no one sees a reason to make it a little harder to obtain weapons.
The resolution of the American people - to live and breathe for work, to fight wars out of fear and greed, to bemoan senseless violence while sanctioning the vehicles that make mass murder possible - is a death pact.
What is it about Americans that makes us feel immortal? When did we lose our sense of vulnerability and instead stare down the prospect of imminent death with a smugness befitting thugs and animals? At Virginia Tech classes went on in spite of reports that a shooting had taken place at a dorm. Five years into the "war on terror" and our surveillance-happy society can't stop a rogue wacko from becoming the hot topic of the 24-hour infotainment networks.

Over the next few weeks the networks will pummel us with exclusive interviews, glimpses into the lives that were and then.... Legislators will bemoan the tragedy, some will call for gun control, others will evoke the 2nd Ammendment, everyone will tell us that we must go on.

Or, more simply, stay put.

I dare you to write a more asinine post.

GCL- You are a vile, disgusting, perverse little man with a totally corrupt little brain! This post is by far the most odious and offensive piece of sh*t I have ever read. The most insidious part of this post is that you have it labeled under "Stupid Americans"! Stupid Americans?? Are you referring to the 32 innocent stupid Americans who lost their lives on Monday? Are you referring to the several stupid American heroes who fought back (without any weapons) and potentially saved a dozen or so lives? Are you referring to the stupid American holocaust survivor who sacrificed his life in order that many of his students could escape?

Or maybe you are referring to the Stupid Fucking Korean maniac who is responsible for one of the most horrific acts of bloodshed and violence in this country. Somehow I doubt it. I'm sure you could not possibly imagine that a minority immigrant who was allowed to flourish under the permissive (i.e. multiculturalism) attitude of the campus could possibly be responsible.

Nope! This is just another example of how horrible and stupid Americans are.

Fuck you!

Berdo said...

I think TGC and JHB have pretty much already said it, GCL. If you're mind immediately goes to "stupid Americans" given the facts JHB lays out for you, you can not be saved from your own bullshit.

Unknown said...

GCL, you've painted a very stark, dark picture which, upon reflection, you might not choose to defend.

Agape.

Berdo said...

When I tell people the truth about people they THINK they admire - like Michael Moore or Cindy Sheehan, they almost uniformly tell me that these people are "just the fringe," and don't represent the mainstream left.

Well, look for yourself on GCL's blog, which has become increasingly stupid and extreme since I began reading it many months ago. A Korean student - who didn't talk to his American peers, didn't take to his American teachers, didn't accept American help (all offered to him despite our "stay put" philosophy) murders a bunch of innocent American students and faculty.

GCL's take? America's fault.

Remember this when someone tells you that you are wrong for identifying the left with knee-jerk anti-Americanism and raw hatred for this country despite all evidence to the contrary. It's as clear as day for anyone with their eyes open and with the will to see the hard truth.

The resolution of the American people - to live and breathe for work

...and build the big beautiful city you live in! ...and employ you... and provide you with health care, etc!

to fight wars out of fear and greed

What war was fought out of fear and greed, exactly? I assume you are referring to Iraq, though you cautiously avoid saying so. You have been asked several times to show proof that this war is being fought for oil or greed and you decline!

to bemoan senseless violence while sanctioning the vehicles that make mass murder possible

WHAT?? The "vehicles" that make mass murder possible, in addition to guns, are airplanes, automobiles, baby carriages, human beings, etc. Are you specifically referring to guns? If so, why is it that liberals somehow manage to see everything from living wages to gay marriage as a civil right (none of which is mentioned in our constitution), but somehow you never seem to understand that the right to bear arms is specifically spelled out for us in the constitution, and it "shall not be infringed"!!

Maybe DEAF Americans is a better way to look at it. Apparently people have been talking about this guys behavior and instability for two years:

James Henry Bailey said...

James-

I know what you are saying, but honestly, didn't we all know people like that in high school and college? And, as far as I know, none of them turned out to be mass murderers...yet. In fact one seemingly seriously disturbed kid I knew in high school now writes for for television!

All I am saying is that if writing disturbing (very disturbing) poems and plays, and acting reclusive was seen as a means of identifying would-be killers, then a lot of popular writers and rappers would be under suspicion.

The "DEAF" comment is a valid point, though. But I still think that people were probably wary of "turning him in" due to cultural sensitivities.

It is typical for both the right and the left to attack by waving a flag. The post is about staying put... about becoming complacent and allowing things to happen as inertia leads charge in one's life. It is not about VTech.

The post also mentions the reality that this nation has become a land of people that live to work instead of work to live. Our children grow up without parents, our parents have no time to enjoy their freedom fully, and families mature in serious disconnect. Many nations have cities just as beautiful and just as free without becoming slaves to work. We are not always #1! Accept it.

When James says "Stupid Fucking Korean maniac" he is becoming as emotionally illogical as he claims this post is. He undermines the courage and bravery of students from many nations that were presented with the same tragedy red blooded Americans faced. This guy was a sick fuck, period. His meds needed serious work and many stupid people both American and not missed or ignored obvious signs of danger... because although we market our nation as filled with perfect systems we very well know we are far from perfect.

Furthermore, "minority immigrants" (a paring I simply do not understand for I have yet to see a nation were immigrants are a majority, unless you mean immigrants who are not white, which in itself says a lot about the source) are not simply allowed to flourish. I am certain this man's parents worked very hard and overcame many obstacles to get here and make their lives here and got dealt a bad hand in life by getting a son with obvious psychiatric problems.

America has some of the greatest people on Earth... a nation of charity and generosity but let's not kid ourselves that we are the smartest, most well-read, most cultured nation in the world... if that were the case we would not need to import those pesky "minority immigrants" to take over our IT and Engineering white collars jobs.

Thanks Marcos -- for a second I thought I missed the mark with my post but I see someone got the point I was trying to make. To be clear, the term "Stupid Americans" refers to the, well, stupid things we as a country do.

How many more schools need to be shot up before we realize that maybe it's not the best idea to make guns as easy to buy as Snickers bars? When did murder become a constitutional right? And why are we talking about gay marriage in the same debate as gun control?

Murder good. Fags bad. OK, noted.

Usually I read the comments here and move on to my next topic. But I have to check back and defend my last post because it sums up what I believe in as a gay conservative liberal.

Whether it's an American thing or a human thing, the fact is that we continue to make the same mistakes over and over. It's a school deciding to carry on with classes even after a student was shot or a people continuing to support a war that is not producing the results it was supposed to, it's stubborness that is going to be the death of all of us.

Nice. Thanks.

Wow! I go off to work and miss so much. I need to reply to a few items though (ahem:

Many nations have cities just as beautiful and just as free without becoming slaves to work. We are not always #1! Accept it.

They also have double digit unemployment, 2-3 generations of families who have to live under one roof, comparatively astronomical inflation, can't drive until you're in your 20s-30s, waiting lists for healthcare where if you are diagnosed with cancer, chances are good it'll be incurable once your chance for treatment comes up. How are those economies? Flourishing or comparatively stagnant? How about the fact that in some locales, you have to have a license to own a TV? Yeah. Life's a bitch here.

because although we market our nation as filled with perfect systems we very well know we are far from perfect.

Where would you rather live? Where is it "perfect"? Reminds me of an example I heard recently. Say you haven't been born yet. God tells you that you will be born into poverty, but you can choose which country you can be born in. Which country would you choose?

We may not be "perfect", but we're still the best damn game out there.

"minority immigrants" (a paring I simply do not understand

Easy. "Minority" is liberal PC code for niggers, chinks, wet backs, pan face, frogs, camel jockey etc etc etc. They won't use the words they prefer because they have to keep up the appearance that they give a shit about anybody, so they use "minority" instead.

if that were the case we would not need to import those pesky "minority immigrants" to take over our IT and Engineering white collars jobs.

And how many have we imported?

And then GCL finally grabs his sack and tries to defend one of his posts, for a change.

How many more schools need to be shot up before we realize that maybe it's not the best idea to make guns as easy to buy as Snickers bars?

Can you name one place, just one, where they are? When are liberals going to realize that it doesn't matter how easy it is to buy a gun when those who want to kill bad enough will do it any way possible?
The whole liberal "gun control" issue is yet another example of their blatant sophistry.

When did murder become a constitutional right?

Nobody, save the pro-abortion libs, have ever said that it was. If you're implying that the right to own a gun is the same as a right to murder, you're more fucking stupid than I ever thought possible. I used to think you were fairly smart, but you've gone down the shit hole lately.

And why are we talking about gay marriage in the same debate as gun control?

Do you read the comments or just skim over them looking only for those you want to read?

because it sums up what I believe in as a gay conservative liberal.

I'll be damned if I know what's conservative about you. Frankly, I've never understood how you can be a conservative liberal. Sounds like "former homosexual".

I can't figure out which is more ridiculous. Marcos's assertion (which GCL agrees with) that the original post "Is not about VTech" even with a huge VTech Logo on the post and the tragedy mentioned in the very first sentence. Or GCL's lame defense of "Stupid Americans" as its own category. Take your pick. But if you believe either version of this backpeddling nonsense, you are as bad as they are.

One could easily make the argument that America is the one country that DOESN'T just stay put. Like most of the world when Iraq invaded Kuwait. Like most of the world when Milosevic attempted to ethnically cleanse Bosnia. Or when Sadaam Hussein was stealing billions of dollars of Oil For Food money to buy nuclear missiles through the AQ Khan network. I wouldn't want to stop the anti-America tantric orgasm you're on, GCL, but I don't think inaction is at all a part of the American psyche...it is, however, a defining characteristic of most other nations of the world. It's certainly true of the UN.

GCL – have the balls to stick to one anti-American argument…either we are a band of idiot cowboys who pick up a gun the minute there is a problem or we are a bunch of indifferent oafs who sit back and do nothing in the face of tragedy. You can’t have it both ways. If you are going to bash America and those who live in it at every possible turn, at least give a nod to some sort of credibility.

And Marcos, America doesn't IMPORT immigrants for high-paying white-collar jobs. Those people are Americans. I don't care if they are of Asian descent. I don't care if they are Hispanic-Americans. I don't care if they are African-Americans. We are ALL AMERICANS. So either they are a part of this country the same way we all are or they are the product of some enterprising headhunter who travels around like Carmen San Diego and plucks talented IT practitioners from some random suburb of Mumbai (absurd).

In the case of this post, GCL and Marcos, you're better off STAYING PUT. You are not doing yourself any favors by responding with this bullsh*t.

-Gene VTech is definitely the reason for the post... that does not mean it is what the post is about but rather the catalyst for it. There is no need to call someone else's opinion nonsense or to demonize anyone for an opinion.
There is also no need to extend
someone else's words to a realm they never touched. You paint ME as the one separating "minority immigrants" from the mainstream, when it was the original reply that did that by giving importance to the shooter's place of birth. We ARE all Americans... and as a second generation immigrant I know that quite well. I CHOSE to live in this nation because of all the opportunities my family was offered and because I enjoy the American way of life. But the reality is that there is a shortage in America of Engineers, IT Experts, Nurses, and Teachers. There ARE headhunters at this moment in Caribbean and Latin American nations recruiting the most qualified nurses. Fortune 500 companies and others with a global presence do take their best and brightest worldwide and send them to US headquarters regularly. That is why the 60 or 70 thousand work visas the US government issues per year run out in a couple of months and that is why corporations have been lobbying for years for dramatic increases in those quotas.

- I do agree with Gene that the USA is not one to stand still. Sometimes it is because our interests our so wide ranging and sometimes it is simply because good people in power do give a sh**. The USA has been labeled the World's Super Cop for a reason. Although I do agree that many other nations stand by and do breathing exercises as long as their shore are not touched I would not be so harsh in the UN. People want to compare the UN to a country or government but it is a sort of Congress with SO MANY different cultures and opinions that it takes time to get anything done. Heck we can hardly pass significant reforms because there are two parties all speaking the same language, imagine how hard it is to convince hundreds of different nations who can't even communicate without an interpreter. Again the UN is imperfect but not entirely useless and at times a very important to tool for US foreign policy.

-James why do you take the worst of the bunch to compare us to? Furthermore, I said we are not ALWAYS #1, which clearly means we have great things to offer. Just like you did with the original post you try to throw the opposite side towards one extreme... I am rarely if ever extreme... perhaps only about eggplant... I won't eat eggplant. Please find the place in which I placed ALL life in this country at "it's a bitch" levels.

-On the other point I said we MARKET our systems, plans, governments, technologies as perfect. If you ever lived outside this country you will understand that many people see America as a beacon of light... that is no BS... America is perfection to many people. We saw the falsehood with Katrina and so did the world. We saw the reality at VTech (this man should have been flagged as a person who should not be able to buy guns). Please show me the part of my reply where I said anything else was perfect. Governments and parties try to sell an air of perfection for their own benefit which many times causes little oversight over systems that are supposed to protect us. That is my problem with it. When you think something is perfect you stop working on it. A nation does not need to be #1 in anything to be a great, or even the best place, to live. But at the same time being the richest nation in the world does not equate with having the highest standards of living, unless money is the only thing that matters.

-If Minority is liberal PC code why are you using it? :) In terms of gun control I believe it is a peculiar but clear American right with deep roots in our growth as a nation and our expansion. It goes hand in hand with the American spirit of exploration and there is no question that our Constitution guarantees it. However, all of our rights, even those in our Constitution have parameters. I believe background checks are a good idea and in this VTech case the system is shown to have too many loopholes. If this man was sent to a psychiatric facility for evaluation that should have been in the system. Then there is an additional problem if the systems are state level systems that do not talk to each other. A nut in New York could cross over to Jersey and get his gun. As a small business man my father has always had guns for self protection and in our society personal safety sometimes requires guns. I doubt a ban on them would kill the huge black market that exists.

Finally, let's not be so vile. Having a different opinion does not require dragging everyone else in the mud. I enjoy and learn from discourse. If it happened more often between the different sides without all the diatribe, we would be much closer to being #1.

The post also mentions the reality that this nation has become a land of people that live to work instead of work to live.

This nation has always required its citizens to live to work! Do you think the original settlers worked a 35 hour week, picked up their entitlement checks and then spent theie evenings in front of the television? They had to live to work. Today, millions of Americans have no choice but to live to work.

And what exactly is wrong with it? Count me among the millions who do indeed live to work! I love my job. I love to work. My life would be less worthy if I did not enjoy my work. It is a part of my life.

Our children grow up without parents, our parents have no time to enjoy their freedom fully, and families mature in serious disconnect.

Again, another miserable outlook on life in America. I for one did not grow up without parents. Most of my friends have children who do not grow up without parents. Everyone seems to be enjoying their freedom fully. None of them, as far as I can tell, mature in serious disconnect. I understand thet there are plenty of families out there who do in fact have serious problems. But I would bet a million dollars that it has nothing to do with the parents working too much. I bet in most cases it's because the parents do not work at all!

Many nations have cities just as beautiful and just as free without becoming slaves to work.

That's an assinine comment. Why do liberals LOVE to throw the word slave around when it comes to people who actually work for a living (i.e. slave labour, slave wages).

When James says "Stupid Fucking Korean maniac" he is becoming as emotionally illogical as he claims this post is.

Hmmmm, so it's ok to use the term "stupid Americans" as a blanket stereotype, but I can't call a single stupid sick Korean man what he is? How does stupid hypocrite grab you?

Furthermore, "minority immigrants" (a paring I simply do not understand for I have yet to see a nation were immigrants are a majority, unless you mean immigrants who are not white, which in itself says a lot about the source)...

Since you can be a minority, but not an immigrant, and since you can be an immigrant, but not a minority, the pairing is justified.

...are not simply allowed to flourish.

I should have been more specific. I should have said his sicko fantasies were allowed to flourish.

And, if they are not allowed to flourish, why the hell do they keep on coming??

let's not kid ourselves that we are the smartest, most well-read, most cultured nation in the world.

James Henry Bailey said...

And as for you GCL:

And why are we talking about gay marriage in the same debate as gun control?

Wait- I thought this debate was about the stupid things Americans do? Is it really about gun control? If so, please refer to your handy copy of the Constitution which says that the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed. Now, look for the part that says "the right to safe abortions must be federally protected", or "the definition of marriage extends beyond the union of a man and woman" or "all citizens are entitled to health care"

It's important GCL, that you understand that you are talking about infringing on a clear-cut right that every citizen has, while you are rallying for rights that must be extracted from the Constitution via lawyers, legislatures and justices who purport to know what the founding fathers intended.

Murder good. Fags bad. OK, noted.

Who said that? If you are attributing that to me or anyone else here- it shows what a serious loathing you have for your dedicated readers.

-James. I too work a lot, at least 60 hours a week and I like feeling productive. But then again I don't have children and as a manager/owner I have the flexibility to do anything I need to do out of the office at any time. I just think that some companies and some employees have forgotten that there needs to be a balance. I have many employees and sometimes they need to go get their children at school or go to a medical appointment and those things should not be a huge issue... for many minimum wage employees and even higher level jobs it is very hard to get time off for things like that. Again, a balance.

-Luckily both you and I grew up with close parental supervision. But I cannot measure society's happiness by the people I know socially or co-workers at corporate jobs. If I did that then I would really think everything is perfect. Some families need to have multiple jobs per bread winner, which leaves little time to even help children with their homework. You are definitely right about many families that do not work at all but the sad thing is that those are the ones that benefit most from welfare. But the system is so messed up and so broken that it is not as black and white as you paint it. It is almost like it forces dependents to decide to either live in welfare forever or try to get out of welfare and not get any help at all. In defense of personal responsibility many immigrant communities are examples of what is possible in this nation with hard work. Many people who come to this country with nothing and are not used to getting handouts from government get off their feet, give their children an education and flourish by the second or third generation thanks to community and ample family support.

That's an assinine comment.

That comment is a direct reply to your comment that the beautiful city GCL lives in was built by people who live and breathe for work. My point was that many cities in the world can be as beautiful or more beautiful and still offer a more balanced existence. I am sure you are happy with your health care but the probability is that those guys hanging on the rafters and beams of those beautiful skyscrapers do not have health insurance nowadays.

-How does stupid hypocrite grab you?

I would ask you the same thing. If you complain about the term towards Americans and then use a similar phrase against South Koreans that is what is hypocritical. How do two wrongs make a right? And why call me stupid? Why get personal? It is not necessary.

-Since you can be a minority, but not an immigrant, and since you can be an immigrant, but not a minority, the pairing is justified.

You are definitely correct about the first... my bad! The second? Not sure I guess it is relative.

On the Nobel Prize figures, statistics cannot be thrown around like that. If there are two equally intelligent nations it is a statistical reality that the nation with a larger population base will have more Nobel Prize winners. If you take that number and look at it per capita you will find the UK is #1 with .00002 per capita while the US ties with Germany with .000001 per capita and both are beat by Switzerland with .000003 per capita. Furthermore, Nobel figures also list that only 33 women have won Nobel Prizes... I will not assume that women are less cultured or less intelligent than men because of that... too long a jump to take, taking into account all the social and cultural values that play into education in world cultures and affect women since the beginning of Nobel.

Furthermore, I DO believe that the best higher education in the world in most fields of study is offered in the United States and that is why we draw so many international students, but out primary and secondary education at public levels is far behind that of many European and Asian nations. To judge a nation's culture, intelligence, or knowledge on the basis of the elite (Nobel Prize winners) is like measuring the literacy levels of a whole nation on the basis of its nobility. Again it is important to recognize the weakness of our nation not because I hate it but because I love it and I want it to be better.

James Henry Bailey said...

If you complain about the term towards Americans and then use a similar phrase against South Koreans that is what is hypocritical.

NO! The term "stupid Americans" is being used in this post as a blanket, stereotype! I am using directed at ONE man who is in fact a stupid Korean! I am not suggesting that all Koreans are stupid. however, the post implies that all Americans are!

The second? Not sure I guess it is relative.

Not to put too fine a point on it- but consider a white male who decides to make America his new home. After he becomes a citizen, he would not be considered a minority. However, a black female who comes from the same place would be considered a minority (in fact she would have the protection of 2 different classifications- race and gender).

statistics cannot be thrown around like that

Your overall point is somewhat valid. However, tell me why nobody else has shown any statistics or data that prove your or GCL's points? And why is it whenever someone puts facts and figures in front of a liberal, they always respond as if the data means nothing (ala Bill Maher).

Again it is important to recognize the weakness of our nation not because I hate it but because I love it and I want it to be better.

Of course. But I still contend that the weaknesses and problems have absolutely nothing to do with a culture that works too hard, or supports a war that you and GCL do not agree with. It certainly had nothing to do with a deranged man

Also, my original disgust with this post was the blatant and disrespectful linking of the VT bloodshed to those issues. If VT had been left out of the post, my response would have been much more subdued.

And I do not think you are stupid. I am using the term very liberally throughout this "discussion" due to the original post.

First you talk about importing other people due to our deficiencies (not as well read or cultured as we think we are, etc.) then you talk about companies and countries exporting talent in your reply. Is it because we are not that bright? Or because there is vastly more opportunity here?

Berdo said...

Marcos -

I now see that when you were replying to "Gene" you really meant Berdo. It seemed you were replying to my post, but had the wrong name. Now that I realize that...

As far as the VTech thing is concerned, this is getting way too convoluted. You say in your original post...in no uncertain terms...that "It is not about VTech" in the service of an argument that other readers of this blog have missed the point. The fact that the post is accompanies by a VTech logo and mentions the tragedy - and GCL HIMSELF extends the tragedy into a diatrible of America's "stay put" flaw does not seem to impress you. Well, it had an effect on me. It's NONSENSE....and that is not too harsh of a word, Marcos, especially when it happens to be true. Now you come back and play semantics...saying this was the "reason" for the post but the post was not "About" the VTech massacre...as if somehow it was an arbitrary sidenote rather than the thread that ran through the critique GCL posted. Come on.

Marcos - I appreciate your nuanced response on America. I may not agree with all of it, but it's thoughtful, interesting, etc. I can not tell you, however, how much I VEHEMENTLY disagree with your recommendation to not be so hard on the UN. If ANY institution deserves it, is the UN. I'd say before even Iran. The UN props up these dictatorships, has created sex rings, is vehmently anti-Israel at the expense of protecting the citizens of countries that actually ARE the world's worst human rights violators (those countries sit on the UN's laughable Human Rights Commission). The UN provides billions of dollars to Hussein - knowingly - through Oil For Food and did nothing about it. IT does nothing about terrorism or genocide (Darfur). It does nothing to protect civil liberties in the countries in dire need of them. It does, however, issue statements against Israel and America. The UN is worse than a disaster...it is an ABOMINATION.

Gene VTech is definitely the reason for the post... that does not mean it is what the post is about but rather the catalyst for it. There is no need to call someone else's opinion nonsense or to demonize anyone for an opinion.

Upon listening to Rush's monologues on the VT issue, it would seem that GCL's title is appropriate, but his message is quite bastardized.

If you look at it, people are more afraid of Political Correctness and the ACLU than getting blown away. You have some ass hat that pretty much everybody knew was Nucking Futz, but you can't do anything about it because it might hurt his feelings or invade his "privacy". I mean, folks were skipping class just so they didn't have to be in the same room with this guy.

FUCK THAT! I'll be damned if I miss a class I paid for just because a major asshole is there. But PC, which has pussified this country dictates that you have to put up with that shit head and take the chance of eating lead for breakfast. Your right to live and get an education is trumped by the rights of some sick bastard who hates you anyway.

Therefore, you have to "Stay put", grab your ankles and lube up for whatever may come your way to fuck you over. Can't violate his nuttiness. That's more important than your right to learn. He was Korean which means his rights trump yours, you rich, white American bastard. Can't profile anybody regardless of how insane they are. Rush had an audio montage of (at least) a half dozen CNN mental giants wondering if the descriptions of him "fit some kind of profile". No way. Can't profile him or anybody else. Everybody has to be treated equally so everybody else can be just as miserable. That's the liberal way.

TGC-

I agree. This demented man was allowed to fester and fantasize due to cultural hyper-sensitivity.

Say GCL,

You're a lib, supposedly. Why didn't any of the students try and negotiate with him? Evidently nobody tried to sit down, talk with him and engage in "conflict resolution". Maybe if her heinous, Nancy Pelosi had gone down there and sucked his cock, none of this would have happened?

Perhaps some UN sanctions were in order?
