Senator Larry Craig's vehement anti-gay politicking has blown up all over his face. In light of unsavory allegations that one of Presidential candidate Mitt Romney's main campaign staffers was soliciting sex in a public bathroom the Senator resigned from the Romney ticket and called a press conference to defend his heterosexuality.
Whatever.
Why can't the Republicans just accept that they've got queers in their ranks and stop making gay rights a bargaining chip in our political discourse?
I suspect more embarassing allegations will arise among conservatives - bets on who's next?

I am so sick of reading out lawmakers making decisions to take away peoples' civil right as a result of their own homophobia and self-hatred? Too bad Jim McGreevey wasn't in the other stall. It could have been a good time for all. It's also comforting to know that someone who is found lurking around the toilets can enjoy the benefits of civil partnership and marriage whereas the squeaky-clean homo who goes to church and adopts 2 kids gets shit.
"Never Have I Ever Been Gay." That's what Craig and his cronies think is the crime. Not soliciting for sex, and quite possibly pressuring sex from younger staffers for the past 30 years. The crime, to them, is being gay.
It speaks volumes about the way elements of our political world view homosexuality. In this case, it's a Republican...and I hope OTHER Republicans have the guts to stand up and point out all the obvious issues, including this one:
If even those with the most viscously anti-gay policies and beliefs (Ted Haggard, Craig) can't "recover" from their homosexuality, maybe, just maybe, it's not a "choice."
